Citrus Avocado Salad – the Perfect Balanced Taste
When making a salad, it’s really hard to go wrong. The only thing you should be cautious of is mixing different tastes. Avocados may vary in taste depending on the type and maturity. Sweet avocados go great with citrus fruits, as they balance out the sour or bitter taste that some citrus have.
For this refreshing salad, it’s important that avocados are ripe and fresh. If can’t to go to the market, try fresh fruit delivery. Adding vegetables such as cucumbers and lettuce will ensure more richness in taste. For 4-6 portions, you’ll need around 10 different citrus fruits, a couple of lettuce leaves, 3 cucumbers, 2-3 avocados and a dash of salt and pepper.
Experiment with different types of citrus in order to have a more colorful plate and experience various tastes. Try mandarin orange, tangerine, blood orange and grapefruit.
Avoid lemons as they are too sour, but you can squeeze a bit of lemon juice on top. Peel off all the citrus and remove the seeds. Slice them along with the other ingredients. Arrange on a plate or mix it all together in a bowl.
Sweet Corn and Avocado Salad
Fresh and creamy taste of avocados makes it great to mix with ingredients that are different in taste and structure.
For 4 serves, you’ll need 2-3 sweetcorn cobs, fresh peas in the approximately equal amount (you can use frozen peas, just boil them afore), 2-3 avocados, a dash of virgin olive oil and lime juice, a teaspoon of honey and mustard and of course – salt and pepper.
Start by boiling the cobs in water for about 10-15 minutes, if you want softer kernels. Let them cool down and then rip the kernels from the cobs.
Slice avocados into cubes and mix them with boiled peas and sweet corn. Add honey and mustard, sprinkle it with salt and pepper, and then mix it all up.
If you want a spicier taste, add red and orange peppers, tomato and onions, but then consider skipping honey. You can easily change the ratio of these salad ingredients according to your preferences.
