Safe Ways to Reduce Pressure Cooker Noise

Pressure cookers are designed to make noise so, you cannot eliminate the noise. However, there are ways you can reduce the noise. We have outlined them below.

1. Turn Down the Heat

An easy way to reduce the noise from your pressure cooker is to lower the heat. That way, the pressure in the pot can slowly dissipate, allowing the food to cook properly. Turning down the heat also ensures that the food doesn’t overheat.

Another way to reduce the noise is to ensure you add enough liquid to the pressure cooker. That way, there is enough water to cook the food.

2. Clean the Pressure Release Vent

If the noise is so loud (like that of a blender or vacuum) then there is cause for concern. In this case, it could be that the pressure release vent is clogged.

So, take the pressure release vent apart and clean it thoroughly before recoupling. You may find out that the culprit is leftover food stuck in the vents.

Resist the urge to block the vent or make it wider. Blocking the release vents can lead to your pressure cooker outrightly exploding. On the other hand, increasing the size of the vent makes it almost impossible for the buildup of pressure required to cook your food.

3. Ensure that the Sealing Ring is Placed Correctly

When the sealing ring or gasket on your pressure cooker is not correctly placed, you will notice steam leaking. This steam leakage can be the cause of the noise you hear. So, to reduce the noise from your pressure cooker, take a look at the gasket and ensure that it is rightly placed.

For best results, we recommend changing the sealing rings twice a year. That way, they don’t become worn out.

If you are still not comfortable with the noise the pressure cooker makes, you can opt for an electric model. It is much quieter.

Conclusion

Pressure cookers make noise as the pressure in them builds. One way to reduce the noise from the pressure cooker is to take apart the release vents and valves and clean them thoroughly to remove leftover food particles. If the noise still bothers you, then you may have to look into purchasing an electric pressure cooker. These models are much quieter and come with built-in safety valves.
