When you’re cooking, it’s normal for your stove to get hot. You may even think that the only part of your stove that can get hot is the top because that’s where the cooking takes place. When you notice that the back is overheating, the question in your mind will be, why does the back of a stove get hot?

Yes! the back of a stove gets hot. Your stove may be a type that can absorb heat while in use, but a lot of heat still escapes through the control panel to the base, that is, the oven.

So, while the burner is in use, the stove’s base absorbs all the heat. This causes the back of the stove to get hot. In other cases, the overheated stove is caused by something more severe, like a broken gasket or blocked vent, and you shouldn’t overlook it. Why Does The Back Of A Stove Get Hot?

The back of the stove gets hot when something has blocked the vents, or the gasket is broken. To fix this, ensure the stove’s vent is clear of dirt clogs. Also, check that the gasket is in good condition. If the gasket is broken, replace it as quickly as possible.

Another reason the back of the stove gets hot is when the oven is turned on. The heat from the oven flows through the control panel to the back of the stove and causes overheating. To fix this, reduce the oven’s temperature or turn it off completely if you’re not using it.

Is It Normal For the Back Of the Stove To Remain Hot After Cooking?

It isn’t abnormal for the back of your stove to remain hot after cooking. However, this heat should only last for a while. If it is still hot after 20 minutes, check that the stove is still in good condition. A faulty surface element is one reason the back of the stove remains hot after cooking.

For some stoves, you cannot fix the surface element. Once it develops a fault, you have to replace it. To fix it,

  • Open the stovetop.
  • Use a screwdriver to unscrew the bolts.
  • Take out the faulty surface element and fix the new one.
  • Screw back the bolts and cover the stovetop.
